Join us to talk with Arturo Taracena, Researcher at the Peninsular Center for Humanities and Social Sciences of the UNAM in Mérida, Yucatán (CEPHCIS), and member of the Governing Board of the Mora Institute (Mexico). Taracena will present his ongoing research on Guatemalan and Mexican insurgencies in the 1960s and 1970s, including the November 13 Revolutionary Movement -MR13- in Guatemala and The Revolutionary Workers' Party in Mexico, 1962 -1973. Taracena has a distinguished career in research and activism. His other ongoing work focuses “Coffee cultivation, regions and cartographies in Guatemala” and “La Bocacosta de Guatemala, 1852-1902.”
Arturo participates in the collective project Biographical Dictionary of the Latin American Left and is co-responsible at CEPHCIS for the Permanent Seminar “Memories, forgetfulness and silences”. He has researched the dialogue processes that were part of the democratic transition and human rights struggles in Guatemala. He is also a member of the History Team of the Commission for the Historical Clarification of Guatemala of the United Nations -CEH-ONU.
