Please join Angie Cruz as she presents her Novels: "Dominicana" and "How to Not Drown in a Glass of Water"
Cruz is the author of four novels: Soledad, Let It Rain Coffee, Dominicana, and, most recently, How Not to Drown in a Glass of Water. Her books, described as "enthralling," "evocative," and "magnetic," draw upon her mother's experience as an immigrant from the Dominican Republic and her own life as a "New York-born Dominicana." The characters in her novels come to us in full three-dimensionality, speaking -- as they live -- in both Spanish and English as circumstances demand. Angie Cruz's work garners praise from all corners: Oprah Magazine and The New Yorker have given her rave reviews; Good Morning America chose Dominicana as the inaugural pick for the GMA book club; and the NY Times and the Washington Post both named How Not to Drown in a Glass of Water on their 2022 Notable Books lists.
Angie will do two events. The first is an afternoon Q&A session, open to all Rutgers students and faculty, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in Murray Hall 302, where she will talk with us about her novels, writing process, and the worlds her work engages. Then, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rutgers Student Center on College Ave., she will give a public reading of her work.
