We are pleased to invite you to "CLAS Faculty Talks: The Future of the Other Amazon: Social-Ecological Adaptation and Literature" with Professor Jorge Marcone, Associate Dean of Humanities.
National imaginaries of the so-called Andean countries show a consistent preference for partial representations of the Amazon. This is true as well of images of Amazonia globally. Literary studies, surprisingly, are responsible for this incompleteness. Indigenous art, nevertheless, flourishes in interculturalism. The archive of 20th-century non-indigenous Amazonian fiction proves to be a site of resilience to a history of social-ecological disturbances.
