CANCELLED Event will be postponed until a later date.
Laura De Moya-Guerra, PhD student in History and John W. Chambers II Oral History Graduate Fellow, will lecture "Chinese in Colombia: One Community, Divergent Voices," which examines how different generations of Chinese immigrants and their descendants experience and relate to and within the diaspora. Through oral history, her scholarship focuses on the voices and perspectives of these historical subjects, which are often not represented in traditional written sources. In this way, it is possible to account for the dynamics of the community and how gender and class impact relationships within the diasporic community. The interviews she conducted also illustrate the diversity found in Colombia's Chinese community.
