Professor Ulla Berg, an Associate Professor at the Department of Latino and Caribbean Studies and the Department of Anthropology, has received a fellowship with the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, alongside fellow Rutgers faculty Jessey Choo, Marisa J. Fuentes, Eric Gawiser, and Alex Kontorovich.
Berg's research focuses on historical and contemporary processes and experiences of migration and mobility within Latin America and between this region and the United States. She has several publications on this topic, including the book Mobile Selves: Race, Migration, and Belonging in Peru and the U.S, and most recently, she is working with Aldo Lauria-Santiago on the book Latina/o New Jersey: Histories, Communities, Politics, as well as a book project with Carolina Sanchez Boe on the social history of the Elizabeth Detention Center and of immigration detention in New Jersey and the United States.
With her IAS fellowship, Berg will continue studying mobility in Latin America by conducting research on deportation and its aftermath between the Andean region of South America and the United States.
