On November 14–15, the Universidad del Norte en Barranquilla, Colombia, hosted the inaugural colloquium Caribe Andino: conexiones entre ambiente, paz e identidades culturales. This event marked the first scholarly initiative to examine the historical interconnections between two of Colombia's most distinctive geographic regions: the Caribbean and the Andes. The colloquium brought together historians, anthropologists, and sociologists whose presentations explored the social, cultural, and economic ties linking these regions.
Laura De Moya-Guerra, a doctoral candidate in history, contributed to the colloquium with her presentation, "De la lavandería al Congreso: Anti-Chinismo en Colombia 1900-1930". Her paper explored the emergence of anti-Chinese sentiment in Colombia, tracing its origins as a hygienic discourse rooted in the Caribbean and its subsequent institutionalization through legislation enacted by the National Congress in Bogotá.
